Iwate Prefecture is located in Tohoku (northeastern Honshu Island). Blessed
with a vast land area, varied geographical features, and abundant nature,
Iwate is a source of great potential.
Because it is geogaphically distant from the heart of Japan, Iwate was
once viewed as a remote, undeveloped region. However, the completion of
the Shinkansen Super express line now makes the Tokyo metropolitan area
accessible in just about two hours. Futhermore, Iwate is promoting regional
development by drawing upon the area's unique characteristics.
